Beyond Engineering – University of South Australia

InternChina are proud to have partnered with University of South Australia to deliver an exciting Mechanical Engineering internship, language and cultural program in China with Funding from Australia’s New Colombo Plan (NCP).

PROGRAMME DETAILS

The Destination: Zhuhai, Dalian, Chengdu or Qingdao

Dates: Flexible*

Duration: 4 weeks (option to extend at additional cost)

Funding: Funding: Recipients will receive up to $4000 of travel grants ($3000 from NCP + up to $1000 from UniSA)

Format: Students will be matched with a local homestay family, with whom they will live with for the duration of the program. All families will have at least one English speaker. Families will provide breakfast and evening meals for students.
Upon arrival, students will be taken to meet the family and will receive an in-country orientation and host company introduction by InternChina prior to beginning their internship. The host company will be arranged between InternChina and the student prior to arrival, and all participants will have the opportunity to speak with potential host company prior to committing to a particular internship.
Internships will be full-time Monday – Friday with a minimum 35 hours in the company per week. Students will have complimentary access to 16 hours of Mandarin Chinese language classes which can be taken either as one to one, private lessons or with other students as part of a group during evenings and weekends.
Students will also have the opportunity to join up to four activities hosted by InternChina at no extra cost.

The winter break of July 2019 is also possible, with Program Director approvalAbout the Programme: Students will be placed in leading, international companies with a focus on engineering processes, product design, manufacturing, quality assurance and project management. Companies will offer students the opportunity to be part of operations first hand. Students will associate with leaders in their field and establish a network of useful China-based contacts. Students are expected to learn technical skills and develop a range of soft skills, all of which are highly sought after by employers. All students will have an English-speaking supervisor but will be working with colleagues from China and most likely other countries too.
InternChina offers an active social program, with optional dinners every Thursday for all students on place and optional weekend activities and trips every week.
This program will act as an enabler for students to gain unparalleled insight into China, notably the world of manufacturing, product design, sourcing and procurement and the opportunities it presents. It will be a platform from which the students can forge new networks, acquire real hands-on experience and gain industry knowledge.

Eligibility requirements:

  • Australian citizen (must not have citizenship or residential rights in China)
  • Between 18 – 28 years
  • Be in 2nd, 3rd or 4th year of their engineering degree
  • Have no more than 2 fails
  • Must not have previously received an NCP short term grant
  • Must be yet to take either MENG 3007 Industrial Experience or the ‘elective’ in the program

InternChina is excited to announce the launch of a Canadian Scholarship program, offering 10 lucky students a chance to complete their co-op paid placement in the amazing city of Taipei, Taiwan for FREE!

InternChina’s scholarship program is a groundbreaking opportunity which enables Canadian students to complete their co-op placement in China for the first time, worth $2,600CAD!

Alongside the minimum working hours required to accredit the internship, InternChina works with you, your host company and your university to ensure the internships fulfill academic requirements and workplace health and safety standards.

The internships are paid at or above Taiwanese minimum wage and you will receive unrivalled pre-departure and on-place support from InternChina’s experienced team.

PROGRAM TIMELINE

Application deadline to be considered for the scholarship – Midnight, 30th April 2019. 

  • Placements start and finish any time of the year, but you must start your role in 2019, commit to at least 6 months and you’re only able to stay in Taiwan for a maximum of 12 months.
  • Salary during internship in Taipei depends on the amount negotiated with the host company, national minimum wage is approx $6.15CAD per hour/$900CAD per month.
  • Any successful applicants will be required to provide a deposit of £200 to our UK account that will be paid back on completion of your agreed placement.

FAQs

Normally yes, but we’re offering 10 students the chance to be awarded the scholarship to cover the $2,600CAD program fee! The scholarship includes comprehensive support from InternChina throughout the placement, the visa processing fees, travel & health insurance plus much more!

  • Must hold a valid Canadian passport, that’s valid for at least 18 months at the point of applying for the scholarship (due to visa application requirements).
  • Must be currently enrolled in a Canadian higher education institution.
  • Must be looking for the internship program to be an accredited part of their course.
  • Must be between the ages of 18-29 (due to visa restrictions).
  • Must have a GPA of at least 65% or higher for their time at university.

Yes. As with all InternChina program, you will know exactly how much you will be paid, interview with the placement company and confirm your placement well before setting off for your epic adventure! The salary for Taipei placements will easily cover living expenses (rent, food etc).

There’s a wide variety of companies, positions and sectors available. Many of our companies also do not require you to study a certain course to consider you for their position. You can look through a full listing of the positions here.

No, although it will help for everyday life! Most of our partner companies don’t require any Chinese language skills. If you do happen to speak Mandarin, or can read/write traditional characters then this will open up more possibilities when it comes to finding you a position.

As you will be living in Taipei for a while, we do encourage you to do some self learning of the basics though to help you settle in. InternChina also offer language lessons at an affordable but additional cost, if you’re looking to become a Mandarin master!

Our Taipei placements are full time, meaning you will work roughly 40-45 hours per week, Monday to Friday with no weekend work required.

With the salary you earn from your internship host company, you shouldn’t have any worries about being able to pay rent/eat and enjoy your time in Taipei! We’ve created an extensive budgeting guide that clarifies what you’re likely to be spending on a monthly basis throughout your time on the program here.For the Taipei program you will be issued a working holiday visa. WELCOME TO INTERNCHINA

InternChina are proud to have partnered with The University of Notre Dame Australia to deliver an exciting 4-week internship & language program for students on the ARTS3850 Directed Individual Study course.

The program will take place in our wonderful mainland China destinations and eligible students are able to receive funding via the New Colombo Plan.

PROGRAM DETAILS

Destinations:  Zhuhai, Qingdao, Chengdu, Dalian

Dates:  24th November – 22nd December 2019.

Language of Instruction:  English

The Programme:  Students will reside in a private room in InternChina’s shared apartment accommodation. Apartments are typically based on two or three people sharing and are furnished to a good standard with cooking equipment and utensils provided. Students may reside with other participants from The University of Notre Dame or may be living with those from other universities taking part in other programs with InternChina as apartments are assigned to provide the most convenient commute to students’ host companies.

Students will be allowed to take 10 hours of beginner’s Mandarin Chinese language classes, either as a group with others in their city or individually. Classes must take place outside of working hours (evenings and weekends. The mandarin language classes aim to provide students with a good base understanding of the Chinese language and offer some useful words and phrases which will help with day to day life. What students learn in these classes will provide the foundations for further, independent mandarin study following program completion.
