We are delighted to be partnered with an organisation that is passionate about what they do. This is seen across many different projects they operate, including the annual Come Together fundraiser.

All members of CTC, as well as the volunteers on Saturday without whom it would have been impossible to make an event as such happen, are like-minded fellows who care about giving something back to the community, helping out, and making a difference.

The ultimate goal is to bring people together from all cultures and walks of life to celebrate music and raise money for great charities with 100% transparency.

The Area

The village around Beishan Hall is simply beautiful and it gives an insight in the “old town” of Zhuhai andhow the now 1,6 million people city must have looked 30 years ago.

InternChina - Come Together

The venue was divided into four zones: an indoor Main Stage with amazing live bands from Macau, Hong Kong and Zhuhai, an outdoor garden area to relax, a Food and Beverage area with delicious international and local food and, new for 2015, an Outdoor Children’s Area with all sorts of games and activities for Children organised by international schools in Zhuhai.

The Live-Performances

The doors of Beishan Theatre opened at 15:00. Shortly after, the first live band, Kewl Jam was warming up the audience. Also, kids had the chance to show their talent to the visitors. Mary gavea really impressive live performance on the piano which was followed by an adorable children’s dance.

Half way through the programme, ZAS (the Zhuhai Autism Society) was proving that a handicap is no drawback when it comes to musical talent. 13 Families affected by autism performed “Boundless Love” in the medium of sign language and chorus as well as “A World Filled With Love”. But that was not all, a drum solo – Laski March, by Enquan and Zhensheng – fascinated the crowd.

Also the bands The Spit Shine Spurs, The Sun Yat Sens, The Vibe, Tommy Chung and @One were rocking the stage and got rewarded with great applause.

Towards the end, a so called “Sexy Dance” left the public breathless and the winners of the raffle as well as the auction were announced.

Last but not least, every one was rocking to the headliners The High Rollers, who’s lead singer affectionately known as, Billy Da Kid, paid for the event’s sound setup in full for the event. The band literally brought all people together and while playing crowd favourites such as let it be, imagine, hey Jude, and Rock My Baby they invited the volunteers on the stage and everyone was dancing together and looking back on an amazing day.

Thumbs Up for our Jinwan Volunteers

By Hayley Gibson and Alicia Wan – 21/08/15
Last week we were offered the opportunity to volunteer at Jinwan School in Zhuhai. The two of us, along with Magda and Pippa decided this would be a great opportunity to get involved with the community, so we took a day off work to help out. On the Friday, we were all picked up from our apartments in the morning and driven to the school which was around 45 minutes away.

InternChina - Volunteer Teaching
InternChina – Volunteer Teaching

After a brief introduction, we were then asked to talk to the children and ask them questions in English, they then had to stand up and respond, allowing them to practise the English they have been learning. Thanks to Magda who got the ball rolling with questions, we eventually became more comfortable and so did the children.

The group then split in half, we took one half of the group, and Magda and Pippa took the other. This section of the class was aimed at teaching the children how to direct tourists. We taught them how to say basic directions such as left and right in English, and decided that the best way to teach was to play games and be interactive with the children. They loved it, and so did we!

The lesson went fairly quickly as it was only 2 hours and at the end we had the opportunity for a photo or 2, which ended up being more like 100 selfies with the children!

InternChina - Volunteer Teaching

After class, Wesley, who is in charge of the volunteers, said that he would be taking us to lunch at his restaurant. This was a great surprise as we thought we would be heading straight home. The food was delicious and it was a great gesture to say thank you.

InternChina - Volunteer Teaching

After lunch Wesley then announced that we would go to his farm to see where the food had come from. Again this was unexpected and a great addition to what had already been a great day!

Overall we had an amazing time volunteering. The teachers were friendly and the children were fun to work with. It was an invaluable experience and we hope to have another opportunity like this again in the future!

Come watch us play and support children in need!

This summer the British Chamber of Commerce in China and the China-Britain Business Council (Britcham/CBBC) with InternChina will be organising a charity football event in support of the internationally recognised charity, the Chinese Relief & Development Foundation (CRDF). The event will be an all-day family friendly 5-a-side football tournament featuring 16 teams of both international and local companies

Left Behind Children’s Centres – The money will be used for LBC centres only.

The Chinese Relief & Development Foundation addresses the serious problem of “left-behind children” in rural areas by establishing care centres. These centres provide an environment to help these children’s healthy growth, to encourage them to continue pursuing an education, and give them with additional tools to help them succeed academically. The Foundation also wishes to raise awareness about this issue. These centres can play an active role in guiding these children towards a successful future by focusing on physical health as well as mental development, helping them develop a positive mental attitude, provide a good learning environment, and giving them additional assistance to succeed in school. Every year, volunteers are transported to the centres to provide psychological counselling and other advisory services.

Things to Know Before You Visit China

If you are interested in China, your friends may have asked you all kinds of strange questions but without fail the conversation always turns to “Do they eat dogs and cats?”.
The answer is: Eating dogs and cats is becoming unpopular.

Having the second largest economy and some of the most developed cities; in China people are starting to prefer to keep cats and dogs as pets. There may be some restaurants selling dog meat, but if you ask local Chinese people where to get dog meat, they may be surprised or offended.
The Chinese government and also several animal rights activists as well as animal rescue teams are trying to ban the dog meat festival held in China.

I’ve often heard about foreigners who were, so to say, pressured by their Chinese host family, coworkers or friends to eat a lot and to try lots of different dishes.
BUT what you need to know about Chinese culture is…

No matter how much they may be eager to accept food, drink or gifts, proper Chinese etiquette prevents them from doing anything that makes them appear greedy or overly eager to receive them, so if you should politely refuse a couple of times before taking it. The same goes for compliments.

The next step is to never drink alcohol without offering a toast! This not only shows your gratitude toward the host and your regard for the other guests, but it also prevents you from drinking too much too quickly. If someone toasts you with a Ganbei be sure to watch out, Chinese know how to put a foreigner under the table in no time.

Also don’t worry about accessing your favourite websites here in China, as you can always rely on a VPN to surf the net.

InternChina - Yes you can!
InternChina – Yes you can!

When you arrive at the airport in China, don’t be surprised because you won’t necessarily be the tallest person in the room. Chinese people are getting quite tall these days, due to diet and advances in nutrition.

And last but not least: Do you REALLY think every Chinese person do these sorts of Kung Fu moves?

InternChina - Everybody was Kung Fu fighting

Trust me, this kind of thing does not happen (often).

But I’m sure you will enjoy your stay in China as much as I am!!!

InternChina – Charity Event

As I was a member of the CPAZ since 2007, CPAZ is a NGO, this NGO started eight years ago in Zhuhai and was officially registered in 2010. The organization is a social, non-profit group organization which provides public welfare and charity services for the public and social development through Education. It was formed and run voluntarily by people from all walks of life who care for, love and support the charity and humanitarian aid. Mission: the organization devotes itself to the development of charity and public welfare in Zhuhai City, and also organizes and establishes an optimistic public welfare team to work on these projects. This is done through carrying out humanitarian activities such as promoting Education and providing the necessary logistics or finance so as to assure that all have access to Education. This is possible through organized events, projects and programs directed to assist socially vulnerable groups.
As I am one of the longest volunteers and organizer there, I am used to going to charity events all the time, such as going to visit schools, visit families, charity sales etc.

The 7th art auction took place on Saturday, December 7. The auction included donations of artworks which consisted of calligraphy, paintings, selected teapots, jade elements and other mechanical pieces of art. All proceeds raised will be donated to of Dr. Cui Zimo’s charity project, “The Blue Angel Education foundation”. I went there to volunteer for the whole afternoon, we raised 235,400 RMB from the Auction which is great as this will be used to help lots of kids’ education.

In September, InternChina had the Come Together charity event. As I was very familiar with this NGO, we decided to corporate with CPAZ to give out the money to the kids’ education. This year Come Together team won one of the best partners in 2013. We were invited by CPAZ for the 3rd annual dinner on Sunday, December 8th, it was a great chance to meet many nice people. They also had an auction during the dinner, the best part was the auction of a second hand bike, the first person paid 5000 RMB, but he donated it to the auction again, someone then paid 6000 RMB to get it and then donated it again and again, in the end the bike got almost 30,000 RMB donation. All the money will go to help a family, this family has 2 Haemophilia children and the dad had passed away 5 years ago. During the dinner, we got almost 60,000 RMB donation in total.

If you want to take part in some volunteering with the InternChina’s staff, don’t hesitate to apply now!

The CPAZ volunteers decided to give a on the spot additional donation for this family, which led to emotions swelling high, and tears on both sides.

Come Together 2014 is currently in the process of being organized so that we can effectively lobby and secure bigger donations for next year’s event. But WE NEED YOUR HELP! How? Easy:

1)      Donations pledged to the Charity

2)      Prizes for the lucky draws

3)      Cash Sponsorships to cover the costs of the event (even though the actual costs are pretty low, it would be great if all could be covered so that all the profit from the drinks could directly go to the charity fund)

4)      Alcohol Sponsorships (to be sold during venue-to raise funds)

5)      Band to perform!

6)      Volunteers to help with the above and with the event itself.
