InternChina – More than just an internship!

You all know our slogan, but what does it really means and implies for you? Weekly dinners, activities and 24/7 support are part of the answer !

I’ve been interning at InternChina for almost 2 months now, so I’ll make things more clear for you !

Not only you’ll have the chance to experience China and its business environment during your programme here, but you’ll be able to experience numerous and unique things in Zhuhai. Our InternChina team organise dinners and activities every week for your well being and entertainment ! Also it enables us to know you on a deeper level, know your preferences, make your stay in this new country as comfortable as possible and give you the opportunity to meet lovely people from all other the world ! If you wish to travel, we have a lot of amazing destinations we can help you visit that aren’t too far from Zhuhai.

Organizing dinners, activities and trips for our participants is part of my job as a  Zhuhai office intern.

Read this blog and you’ll know what you can expect from our team, what you can do and explore in the city. By the end of it, you’ll feel like a Zhuhai local.

Of course if you have any suggestions of activities or trips around Zhuhai, let one of our InternChina team know about it ! We’ll do our best to fulfill your wishes !

Food

Every week we organise one of our famous “Thursday Dinners.”

This is a social event, to share a group meal, discover new Asian cuisine and talk about our week! We understand that you are students, so don’t worry- we try to make these dinners affordable! Usually, we try to avoid expensive restaurants, but they are always tasty. We usually stick to a budget of 50RMB per person, and sometimes this is even less.

How do we organise these dinners? Usually we make a post on our official Zhuhai InternChina WeChat account, or we post in our IC Zhuhai group chat.

We’ll give you some more details about the restaurant, the cuisine, the food, the time and the location of the dinner. If you’re interested in coming along, then simply join the dinner group by scanning the QR code provided! This helps us know how many people want to come along, so we can book a table accordingly. During the summer, we can have more than 30 people for dinner!

This is our job to organise this, all you need to do is scan the QR code and join! Couldn’t be easier !

Activities

After a week hard work during your internship, we know that you’ll totally want to enjoy some fun activities and trips during the weekend. With all the possibilities that the city offers, you’ll never get bored in Zhuhai. IC also organize a lot of activities and trips around Zhuhai as we know that exploring China and its culture elsewhere than Zhuhai is a must.

We try to organise a new activity every weekend, and just like the dinners, we try to make sure these activities are all affordable so you can take part in as much as you can.

What has Zhuhai to offer ? There are lots of fun tourist activities, such as the Lover’s Road, the Fisher girl, Jida Beach, the Chimelong aquarium, the Opera, the Gongbei underground market and the numerous temples. We also want to make sure you see the natural beauty in Zhuhai! Outdoor activities such as exploring Zhuhai’s islands, hiking to a waterfall, archery, paint-balling are always popular, especially during the summer.

We also want you to learn about the Chinese culture while you are here, so we organise cultural activities such as calligraphy classes, Chinese cooking lessons, tea ceremonies, or even Tai Chi lessons!

Following seasons, you may also get to attend the Cixi Festival in August, or some opening ceremonies!

You will definitely never be bored, with plenty of activities available for you to explore the city, have fun, and network!

Trips

We also try to organise some weekend trips for you to discover other cities in China.

Recently, we organised a weekend trip to Tangkou- listed among UNESCO World Heritage Sites ! In the past we have also organised trips to Beijing, Hezhou, Shanghai, and Yangshuo… the possibilities are endless!

For any weekend trips we organise, we will provide you with a detailed schedule so you can make the most of your time in each city! We will also let you know how much each trip will cost, and this will include your transport, accommodation and activities for the weekend. It will cost more than a regular Saturday Event, but it is definitely worth going and exploring more of China!

Support

Our IC team offers 24/7 support while you are on place, and we are here at every stage of your stay in China – before, during and after !

Upon your arrival, we will pick you up from the airport or ferry port and take you to your accommodation (apartment or a homestay). We’ll also provide you with an orientation to help you understand Chinese culture, and give you some advices about life in Zhuhai.

InternChina’s Favourite Places

When you are new to Zhuhai, and don’t know where to go or what to see, we’re here to propose you some places to go to! Below is a list of our favourite places- you can even impress your colleagues with your Zhuhai knowledge and invite them along!

HuoGongDian 伙工殿 –  Try some Hunan food from the North of China ! The Hong Shao Rou (红烧肉) is supposedly Chairman Mao’s favourite dish. This place is a crowd favourite, the food is awesome. Address: 珠海市香洲区石花西路62号(近白莲洞公园) or get off the bus at 伙工殿大厦 (huo gong dian da sha).

The London Lounge – Very popular bar amongst expats. Their Chinese as well as Western staff are always ready to crack a joke and also the Open-Mic sessions every second Thursday are worth checking out! Location: East Coast, Jida

FBB Fresh Burger Bar – A German bar and restaurant located in Jida. Here you can get many Western (especially German) food and drinks ! There’s a wide range of german beer available ! Get off the bus at  水湾头”Shuǐ wān tóu” or just say it to the taxi driver !

GongBei Underground Market – For all of the shopaholics, there is an underground market in 拱北 (Gongbei) where you can get all your branded designer wear for suspiciously cheap prices, as well as a handful of more western companies (H&M, Vera Moda, Only, etc.) in the shopping malls.

I hope these details and pictures convinced you that InternChina has so much more than just an internship to offer you! You’ll never feel alone, and this experience will be unforgettable!

Internship not to be spent alone

Ni Hao,
Zhuhai has been voted the most livable and romantic city in China. Therefore, I would advise anyone who has never been to China, to make Zhuhai a must see destination! InternChina is always planning different activities and trips for all of the current interns. Let me give you a little bit of an insight of the trips I have been planning over this summer.

  • Waterfall trip

The Waterfall Trip was organized by a friend of mine. I helped him organize it by bringing many interns on the trip. The waterfall was about an hour from Zhuhai. Once we arrived there, we had to hike for another hour to get to the waterfall. The water was splendid, the waterfall was beautiful. We were surrounded by nature with no one else but our big group. I would definitely recommend anyone coming to Zhuhai, to go to this waterfall.

  • Taekwondo class

We had the incredible chance to participate in a Taekwondo class with the help of Henry, our customer relations staff. Many interns had never tried this sport discipline. I, myself was pretty impressed on how difficult the moves can be. Some interns were so interesting in it that they signed up to go to the classes twice a week. Come to Zhuhai, you’ll get to train with black belts and learn how to do some wonderful kicks!

  • Movie night

Many of the interns had wanted to see a movie. Of course when Jurassic World came out, we jumped on the occasion to go watch it. We booked the tickets online and got our 3D glasses. The movie was spectacular, we only payed 49 RMB + 10 RMB glasses and it was totally worth it. The movie theatres in China are spectacular (well almost spectacular)! The seats can fall backwards laying almost all the way down. The downside of Chinese movie theatres is the people talking on their phones but if you pick the right seats, you should not hear them too much!

  • Zhuhai International Circuit

All of the interns had the chance to go to the Pan Delta Super Race Festival. The festival took place at the Zhuhai International Circuit and was held from the 19th of June to the 21st of June. Zhuhai often hosts race festivals which is always interesting for the interns to see. If the interns want, there is also a go kart track available next to the circuit.

  • Island trip

With the help of an agency, we were able to spend a lovely weekend on Dong’ao Island. The island was splendid, surrounded by nature and clear, clean water. We all spent a wonderful Saturday afternoon at the beach before sleeping in tents by the ocean. Zhuhai has hundreds of different islands to be discovered. Come to Zhuhai to explore these fantastic treasured islands!

  • Chinese Corner

Many of the interns in Zhuhai do not speak Chinese. In fact most of the interns come to China with no Chinese language skills. Chinese Corner is a FREE class that is taught by kind Chinese ladies. The class can be joined by any foreigners and is always welcoming newbies. Recently we went on a field trip to the supermarket to apply what we had learned the week before about fruits and vegetables.

Thought these activities were fun? InternChina offers more than an internship! Hop on a plane and get to China, we are looking forward to meeting you!

My First China Experience

After almost three months living in China, I can definitely say that I´m feeling at home 🙂 Of course, InternChina is a big part of my experience. From my first day in the Chengdu office I felt really welcomed and it was quite easy to settle although it was my first time in China. The team is super friendly and helpful and made me feel so comfortable from the very beginning.
All the unforgettable trips we went on starting with an amazing trip to the LeShan Giant Buddha, which was carved out of a cliff face. This Buddha is not only the largest stone sculpture of its kind in the world, but the tallest pre-modern statue. It was so impressive and beautiful. Afterwards we went to Mount Emei – climbing up 50,000 stairs in two days, sleeping in a very traditional Buddhist Temple, almost freaking out by only hearing the word “stairs” but finally arriving at the most beautiful place ever  – the golden summit.

JiuZhaiGou was another great weekend trip. I don´t even know what to say about this beautiful place! The national park offers stunning waterfalls and incredible lake Groups!

Food

Not to forget about the amazing food Chengdu has to offer. I was not really the person who eats lots of spicy food before I came to Chengdu. But now, this is the best thing in the world. It still makes me feel I want to die sometimes, but I can´t stop – just love it so much 🙂

First experience at the hairdressers-Thanks to Brigitte’s wonderful Blog post (Chinese Haidressers) Thanks again! – It all worked out really well. Washing, Cutting, Styling pluuuuus a head massage for only 6€. This makes me never want to leave China again 😉panda

And finally the BEST thing about Chengdu – the Pandaaaas. The cutest animal ever! Looking so innocent while eating bamboo or sleeping all day long! I would love to go to the breeding station every day 🙂
It has been wonderful and full of many unforgettable moments the last three months!

Things To Do in Zhuhai, Zhuhai InternChina Events

Unterwegs in Zhuhai

Mountains only one hour from Qingdao

No matter which area you live in China, there will always be fantastic places to explore nearby. This month, I visited Laoshan 嶗山, a beautiful mountain range around one hour from Qingdao, with a group of friends from InternChina. We organised a minibus to take us straight from the main city centre to the outskirts of the mountain area. With a very eager bus driver, we bought our tickets and took the coach up to the mountains followed by a cable car. There were hundreds of Chinese tourists as well as a few western ones; Laoshan is rated highly as one of the best scenic areas in Shandong province.
Already incredibly high up, there was a set of stairs to the highest viewing point. Getting up to the top was the hardest part of the day. If you are not active/ fit (like me) this is quite a task; I almost gave up at one point but the morale and support from my friends pushed me all the way up to the peak. But it’s like anything in life; you have to put the work in to reap the rewards. After an hour of several breaks and my mini heart attacks, we had made it…

InternChina - The best picnic spot
InternChina – The best picnic spot

What a sight! Mount Lao is the highest coastal mountain in China and the second tallest mountain in Shandong, with the highest peak (Jufeng) reaching 1,132.7 meters. It also has an ancient history, as it is known as one of the birthplaces of Taoism. It is the place where the Complete Perfection School of Taoism was developed. On reflection you can see why this area has such a rich background with its breathtaking views and serenity.

We were blessed with beautiful weather and the views were spectacular, it really made you realise how big the world is. There was also an amazing wooden bridge overlooking the mountain and all the flowers at the top were in bloom.

Fortunately, the peak doubled up as the best picnic location you could ask for, but we were careful not to drop any crisps as they would be scattered around 100 meters below. And, after all that climbing – I was extremely careful with my Chinese style Pringles. Walking down the thousands of stairs was at least four times as quick. We got the coach back at around 4pm and we all felt exhausted but happy. My friends and I then had a delicious Chinese meal for dinner and went to bed – a perfect day. It’s great to do an internship with Intern China as these types of activities and events are always organised. If you want to take a trip away to from the city, or want to learn a new skill there is always something for everyone. I recommend anyone who comes to Qingdao or the other cities to go and visit something similar to Mount Lao and enjoy the breathtaking views.
